Canadian musician Tom Cochrane’s “Life Is a Highway” track comes off his 1991 album, Mad, Mad World.  In addition to inspiring a music video, this country-rock tune would peak at # 6 on the U.S. charts and # 3 in the United Kingdom. 

Its subsequent covers include Chris LeDoux’s 1998 version for his One Road Man album and by Rascall Flatts for the 2006 Cars animated film soundtrack.       

REVIEW:

Combined with a catchy, upbeat melody, Tom Cochrane’s rollicking vocals delivers a welcome treat.  This original version of “Life Is a Highway” is definitely a must-have for any road trip playlist.

KEEP YOUR EYES ON ME (by Faith Hill & Tim McGraw: The Shack movie soundtrack)

For The Shack’s 2017 film soundtrack, husband-and-wife duo Tim McGraw & Faith Hill recorded this ballad.

REVIEW:

This poignant love song about devotedly keeping a troubled relationship alive delivers an inspired country-pop sound.  Not only is this track well-performed, the elegant and gradually soaring melody completes one of Tim McGraw & Faith Hill’s best-ever efforts.  “Keep Your Eyes on Me” is definitely worth adding to any number of playlists.

COME HOME (by Faith Hill: single)

Faith Hill released this single in 2011.

REVIEW:

Overstaying its welcome a bit, this warm-hearted ballad rates as an average effort from Faith Hill. Still, the endearing-enough “Come Home” is worth adding to a favorite contemporary country playlist.

BACK TO GOD (by Reba McIntire & Lauren Daigle: single)

After performing this song together at 2017’s American Country Music Awards ceremony, Reba McIntire & Lauren Daigle subsequently issued an official duet single.  McIntire had previously released a solo version of “Back to God” from her 2017 album: Sing It Now: Songs of Faith & Hope.   

REVIEW:

Seamlessly blending country-rock with contemporary Christian pop, Reba McIntire and Lauren Daigle nail this song.  Their soaring vocal chemistry is impressive, as they bring this track’s poignant lyrics to life.  Anchored by an inspired melody, “Back to God” is a gem well worth considering as a download.

The gently optimistic “American Heart” is definitely one of Faith Hill’s best ballads. Recommended!
