SUMMARY:
Published by DC Comics for December 2005, the JLA’s implosion continues in “Calls to Arms.” The telepathic Key lashes out, causing a suicide bomber to destroy a downtown bus. Blaming the JLA, he claims more unsuspecting victims. In the JLA’s original cave headquarters, Dawn receives a mystical warning from her late husband.
Black Canary & Green Arrow briefly skirmish before Oliver Queen ruefully confesses his fling with Dawn. Due to Batman’s hostile behavior, Aquaman floats the idea to Green Lantern (John Stewart) and Green Arrow of assembling a secret League to challenge “Brother Eye.” As Black Canary consoles Dawn, the Native American mystic confides an ominous premonition. Having rebuffed the League, Nightwing contacts Batman, as the Dark Knight is now evidently on the Key’s trail.
REVIEW:
Well-played! Capably supported by the art team (especially Daniel Acuna’s spot-on cover), writer Bob Harras delivers a solid installment building momentum towards the JLA’s confrontation with the Key. This issue is definitely worth a read.
