SUMMARY:

Entitled “Gorilla Warfare, Chapter 2: Life in the Fast Lane,” DC Comics released this issue for October 1992.  Racing from the JLE’s new English headquarters back home to Keystone City, Wally West has mere seconds to make his promised TV appearance on girlfriend Linda Park’s morning talk show.  Yet, an inadvertent encounter with Hector Hammond’s mind-controlling powers hijacks the Flash to send him off across the Atlantic Ocean into Africa.

Even after ditching his unwanted passenger, Hammond, Wally encounters Hal Jordan’s Green Lantern in the African jungle.  Cameos by Elongated Man, Sue Dibny, the Crimson Fox, and Power Girl are included.  This storyline concludes in Flash # 70.

Note: “Gorilla Warfare” also includes Green Lantern # 30-31.

REVIEW:

Despite plainly unremarkable artwork, writer Mark Waid conjures up a fun joyride for a Flash/Green Lantern tag-team match vs. Hector Hammond & (at least, for this issue) an unseen Gorilla Grodd.  Waid once more impresses with his wisecracking Wally (reminiscent of Firestorm & Spider-Man) in his banter ridiculing a seemingly outmatched Hammond.  It’s by no means a classic, but Flash # 69 is still worth adding to any comics collection.  More significantly, Flash # 69 is the kind of back issue that parents can reliably entrust to pre-teen kids.

ADDITIONAL CONTENT:

A black-and-white ad page plugs Batman: Sword of Azrael # 1; Justice League Europe Annual # 2; Wonder Woman Annual # 3; Deathstroke the Terminator # 15; New Titans # 91; and Team Titans # 2.
