SUMMARY:
Entitled “The Revenge of the Renegade!,” this 32-page issue was published by DC Comics for November 1976. Defending a critically-wounded fellow Green Lantern in deep space, Hal Jordan fends off Sinestro’s ambush. Through a cosmic hydrogen storm, Hal must desperately push his way home to Earth.
Meanwhile, Green Arrow (Oliver Queen) gladly accepts an invitation to the Middle East to compete in an archery showdown for the Sultan of Shan. A suspicious Oliver is tipped off that all is not what it seems. Sinestro emerges to finish off a vulnerable Hal, knowing full well that his emerald power ring is severely depleted.
REVIEW:
Even if the plot doesn’t offer any surprises, writer Denny O’Neil ensures that this kid-friendly comic is a fun ride to jump aboard. Further bolstered by artist Mike Grell’s visual support and a great cover image, Green Lantern / Green Arrow # 91 is an exciting time machine to the nostalgia of an era when super-hero comics weren’t unnecessarily complicated. Mingling a Green Lantern/Sinestro showdown with Green Arrow’s latest adventure makes this colorful issue well worth re-discovery.
ADDITIONAL CONTENT:
There’s a single-page “Green Lantern’s Mail Chute” and DC’s “Daily Planet” column hyping issues released the week of July 19, 1976.
