SUMMARY:
Entitled “Zatanna, Mistress of Magic,” DC Comics released this 32-page issue for February 2020. In a Villa Hermosa nightclub, Selina rendezvouses with Zatanna Zatara. Surrounded by unnamed goons, the glammed-up old friends make a modest wager: no whip, no magic – and the loser buys the post-brawl drinks. Standing back to back with Catwoman, Zatanna displays her rarely-seen fist-fighting talents against the local mob.
After making enigmatic hints to their pre-Flashpoint friendship, Zatanna passes to Selina a seemingly innocuous little weapon to use against Raina Creel. Meanwhile, at the pawn shop hideout, Carlos is watching over Selina’s catatonic sister, Maggie, when an ominous threat closes in on them.

REVIEW:
Including terrific visuals where Zooey Deschanel’s likeness personifies Zatanna Zatara, the plot’s vast majority is depicting Selina & Zatanna’s barroom brawl vs. at least a dozen thugs. Despite stirring DC’s murky continuity waters, it’s fun to finally see to see Selina’s reunion with a trusted pal from the past. Hence, even if it it is hardly remarkable, Catwoman # 18 still delivers a welcome read for Selina’s fans.
ADDITIONAL CONTENT:
In lieu of a back-up tale, the “DC Nation” column presents a six-page catalog hyping storylines from: DC’s “Year of the Villain” saga; the “Dark Knight Universe;” Watchmen; Crisis on Infinite Earths; and Birds of Prey / Harley Quinn. Lastly, a “DC Nation Spotlight” features visual looks for the Suicide Squad’s young new recruits: Osita; Wink; Fin & Scale; The Aerie; and Thylacine.
